NBN Co and Nokia on Wednesday announced a trial of XG-FAST, the latest generation of broadband access technology operating over existing copper networks.
Simply put XG.FAST is the next version of a Nokia-owned technology known as G.Fast which is a way to achieve much greater speeds across the end of a digital subscriber line (DSL).
It is demonstrated that multi-gigabit rates are achievable over typical drop lengths of up to 130 m, with net data rates exceeding 10 Gbit/s on the shortest loops. The XG-FAST technology will make fiber-tothe- frontage (FTTF) deployments feasible, which avoids many of the hurdles accompanying a traditional FTTH roll-out. Single subscriber XG-FAST devices In this paper, we propose the system concepts of XG-FAST, a technology capable of delivering 10 Gb/s connection speeds over short copper pairs. With a hardware proof-of-concept platform, it is Dubbed XG.fast, the new technology could be used to massively extend the life of existing copper wireline networks, offering telecom companies an alternative to laying costly fiber-optic networks Bob Dormon / Ars Technica UK Nokia has achieved a connection speed of 5Gbps—about 625MB/sec—over 70 metres of conventional twisted-pair copper telephone wire, and 8Gbps over 30 metres. The trial XG-FAST is 1,000 times faster than broadband, and 10 times faster than Google Fiber, taking connectivity to a whole new level. Forget BT’s plan to deploy “ultrafast” 300-500Mbps capable G.fast broadband technology to 10 million UK premises by 2020 ().Today the operator has joined with Alcatel-Lucent to test future XG.FAST (G.fast2) technology, which under lab conditions has just pushed aggregate speeds of 5.6Gbps over 35 metres of copper cable. XG-FAST is 1,000 times faster than broadband, and 10 times faster than Google Fiber, taking connectivity to a whole new level.
This iteration should be able to support a ten-fold speed increase with 10Gbit/s over short, bonded lines. Again, the pay-off is reach, and these speeds can only be obtained over distances of around 100m – at the moment. The XG-FAST technology will make Fiber-to-the-Door deployments feasible, which avoids many of the hurdles accompanying a traditional FTTH roll-out. Single subscriber XG-FAST devices would be an integral component of FTTH deployments, and as such help … G.fast is a digital subscriber line (DSL) protocol standard for local loops shorter than 500 m, with performance targets between 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s, depending on loop length. High speeds are only achieved over very short loops.
XG-FAST is 1,000 times faster than broadband, and 10 times faster than Google Fiber, taking connectivity to a whole new level. As impressive as the Bell Labs results are, the manner in which it was
High speeds are only achieved over very short loops. Although G.fast was initially designed for loops shorter than 250 meters, Sckipio in early 2015 demonstrated G.fast delivering speeds over 100 Mbit/s nearly 500 BT on Tuesday came out fighting in favour of copper, revealing it has reached connection speeds topping 5 Gbps using XG.fast technology. The tests were carried out in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent at the U.K. incumbent's Adastral Park R&D centre in Suffolk. 2016-10-19 Converge!
The XG-FAST technology will make fiber-to-the-frontage (FTTF) deployments feasible, which avoids many of the hurdles accompanying a traditional FTTH roll-out. Single subscriber XG-FAST devices would be an integral component of FTTH deployments, and as such help accelerate a worldwide roll-out of FTTH services.
Try build your project faster with XG Technologies! XG-C100C uses next-generation 10GBase-T (10G) networking technology to deliver speeds of up to 10 Gbps - 10x faster than standard gigabit Ethernet.
Single subscriber XG-FAST devices would be an integral component of FTTH deployments, and as such help accelerate a worldwide roll-out of FTTH services. 2019-08-01 · This allows for multi-gigabit speeds using XG-fast technology. The fiber node may be reverse-powered by the subscriber modem. Fiber to the home (FTTH) is the technical direction that people have been pursuing for 20 years. However, due to obstacles in cost, technology and demand, it has not been widely promoted and developed. Basically, while a VDSL2 signal frequency maxes out around 17MHz, G.fast starts at 106MHz (it can be doubled to 212MHz) and XG.fast uses between 350MHz and 500MHz. This means that there's a lot
Should any of this sound familiar then that’s because the approach being taken with G.mgfast appears to have some of its roots in XG.FAST technology, which we’ve already seen being tested .
