V-42 FSSF Stiletto in World War II. V-42 FSSF Stiletto. Photo: Rally Point Militaria. The V-42 Stiletto was specially designed for use by members of the U.S.-Canadian First Special Service Force (FSSF). This unconventional commando unit, organized in 1942 and disbanded in December 1944, was known as FSSF, the "Devil's Brigade" or just "the Force." The knife features a a double-concave stiletto blade, a unique thumbprint that is embedded in the blade near the hand guard to help users maintain a better grip. With its relatively thin, narrow blade, the V-42 was designed from the outset for use as a fighting knife, and was prone to breakage when used for utility chores such as opening ration tins or ammunition crates.
